The Devilock is a hairstyle made famous by The Misfits around 1979. The sides and back of the hair are kept short, while the front is kept long and combed forward. There are several variations; the most common version is worn with the front hair pinched into a spiked ponytail, save that the hair is usually styled in place with gel rather than with hair ties.
In an interview, Jerry Only stated that it evolved out of a "tidal wave" hairstyle he wore at the time, popular amongst the 1970's surfing and skateboarding communities. Supposedly, Only originally called the hairstyle "the wave," until Glenn Danzig's friend's mother came up with the more sinister name that stuck.
VARIANT 1
- Shave the hair on the sides and back of your head, but do not make yourself bald. If done properly, you should have something similar to a mushroom cut, but not as neat.
- Cut the hair closest to the shaved area gradually longer.
- Use can of hairspray or some hairwax on your hair.
- Spray or wax the long parts of your hair.
- Bunch all your hair into a point.
- Grow your hair long; 8 inches is considered a minimum.
- Bend over and make sure as much of your hair as possible hangs in front of your face.
- Spray your hair with hairspray.
- Style your hair into a single lock using your hands.
- Dry your hair with the hair dryer.
- Be careful to make your hair even on both sides, symmetry is the hallmark of this haircut.
- The Mohawk of the style is an easier Devilock to maintain and keep, but it takes a bit longer to prepare and may seem a bit annoying when you are sleeping.
- As your hair begins to grow, shaved areas may experience awkward hair growth. Trim off any out of place hair with scissors. Once it becomes about as long as your hair was when you began, slick it back using water, wax, or spray.
The End Product, Keep It Classic.
